Instead of going the conventioanl accommodation route, this option by
Responsible Travel is a 12-day trip that gives you the full experience of the Island and its array of culture and scenic landscapes. You’ll discover local life while still being able to enjoy the beauty of the island.
The price includes all breakfasts and 50% meals allowing opportunity to eat out. Transport used throughout the trip will vary between public and private depending on location. Accommodation will be on a home stay arrangement and will be the base for the duration of the trip.
This is an eco tourism experience where visitors have the opportunity to get involved and experience life in the community. The trip allows a maximum of 10 people and operates once a month so that the it does not overwhelm local communities and the environment.Accommodation is at small, family run guest houses or, locally owned homestay and run by local people who receive a wage relative to the Mauritian economy. All food is purchased locally, from small independent retailers or markets to ensure money is put directly back into the economy and reducing unesscery packaging and waste.
Marine conservation holiday in Mauritius
Organised by Responsible Travel, you get to monitor wild Dolphin and Whales off the coast of Mauritius and make a vital contribution to the work of a local NGO by assisting in real, hands-on conservation that will hopefully have a positive outcome.
This study focuses on Bottlenose and Spinner Dolphins, Sperm Whales and Humpback Whales, all of which are found in the diverse environment between the Tamarin Bay and Black River areas of Mauritius.
Projects also include surveys of tourists and local operators to gain a better understanding of the economic value of this activity. Volunteers are asked to conduct these surveys in various parts of the island … the perfect opportunity to meet locals and see some of the sights!
You’ll be based in La Preneuse, Black River, on the south west coast of Mauritius.You will live and work in a house in La Preneuse. The property is a 2 minute walk to the beach and easy access to some small restaurants, supermarket and bus stops. Find out more from Responsible Travel.
